Thanks for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award

very-inspringaward

I was very excited to be nominated for the Very Inspiring Bloggers Award by Nichole Davis.  Her blog Triumphant Wings: My Life with Lupus and Antiphopholipid Syndrome is a place where she shares her journey with two serious chronic illnesses.  I particularly appreciate her powerful poem Lost.  The poem Lost touched me to my core.  Nichole also shares her beautiful photographs on her blog.

Here are the guidelines for the award:

  1. Thank and link the amazing person who nominated you.
  2. List the rules and display the award.
  3. Share seven facts about yourself.
  4. Nominate 15 other amazing blogs and comment on their posts to let them know they have been nominated.
  5. Optional: Proudly display the award logo on your blog and follow the blogger who nominated you.

7 facts about me:

  1. I have either driven through or lived in every state except Alaska
  2. I’ve been to India 24 times
  3. I have a 36 year old daughter and a 39 year old son.  They both live in India.
  4. I was a terrible cook when I raised my kids.  They grew up on very simple meals with a lot of frozen dinners thrown in.  I practiced a lot of new recipes before they visited Seattle a few weeks ago. It was fun to surprise them.  Better late than never.
  5. My children will take their dad, my ex-husband, to the Tetons and Yellowstone in July.  It is a trip that is on his “Bucket List.”  He has asked me to come too.  I have some concerns about the altitude since I deal with high blood pressure, but I’ve decided my blood pressure is enough under control to join them for part of the trip.
  6. I was once called for jury duty soon after I started a new job.  I was chosen for a trial that lasted for 3 months.  I thoroughly enjoyed serving on the jury, but my new employer was very unhappy that I hadn’t attempted to get out of it.
  7. I took my children to see Prince when they were preteens/teens.  I loved his Purple Rain album then, and still do.  The song I like best on that album is “When Doves Cry.”

  1. Thank you so much for the appreciation and for mentioning my poem. It came from the heart and speaks clearly of one of the emotional struggles I have encountered with my diagnoses. It has been an interesting journey so far to say the least. I enjoyed reading your facts. I have high blood pressure as well (because Lupus and the blood clotting disorder weren’t enough LOL…actually Lupus is sort of causing my BP issues)…. I hadn’t actually considered altitude changes as an issue with BP. Now I’m going to go research it! Congrats on the Very Inspiring Award, so glad you accepted it! 🙂

    1. I very much appreciate you nominating me. I didn’t realize there was an association between BP and Lupus. I hope you find something helpful when you investigate altitude. Do you live in high altitude?

      1. If a person’s Lupus has kidney involvement, which is common and for me there is, then BP can be a problem. Last August one of the things that happened when I started getting ‘sick’ is my BP started going high. Not dangerously high, just high enough my doctors decided to start me on meds. I don’t I live in the piedmont area of North Carolina but my family lives in the mountains of NC and I am back and forth visiting them every few weeks.

    1. After spending a childhood moving…. because my father was in the Army…. I had no interest in traveling anywhere.(I’ve lived in the same house for more than 40 years!) That changed when I met my spiritual teacher in 1989. Since then I’ve gone to India almost every year. It is amazing how one’s “plans for their life” can change in an instant.

      1. I used to work for a woman who grew up as an Army brat – she also traveled a lot as an adult for her job so she has been everywhere! I would love to do that some day. That is so interesting that you had such a change of heart after getting into spiritual matters, I have been going through a very similar evolution the past month or so! I would love to go to India someday soon, I bet you have learned so much there! Every year since 1989? Wow, that is so amazing. Thanks for the response! 🙂

      2. My mother loved all of the traveling. I didn’t so much have a change of heart as I do what it takes to get where I want to go! I’ve lived in the same house in Seattle for 40 years so I’m still liking the type of stability.

My Writing 101 post today will be about India so stay tuned!

    1. I traveled “through” each state. Almost all of that was as a child moving from place to place when the military transferred us to different army bases. Plus we drove to visit relatives in various parts of the country. We used to keep track of each state we went through. In the U.S. I have lived in Georgia, New Mexico, Hawaii, North Carolina, Florida, Washington, and California. I have also lived in Germany. I was in California for a year after I graduated from college- September 1970 to September 1971. My home was in Oakland but I spent a lot of time in Berkeley and San Francisco!

      1. Oh, I see. That is still awesome though. I have been to Oakland for baseball games numerous times. Quite sadly, it has changed through the years. Though I went to UC Berkeley for a college visit & it was really nice there. 🙂

      2. I spent time there in the late 60’s and early 70’s so it was extra special, at least to me. So many things were happening in the cities and in the country.
