I walked through the ashram yesterday, looking for flowers that were new to me. I was intrigued by this one. I wonder if it is in the same family as a hibiscus. There are both similarities and differences.

Gumamela is apparently another name for hibiscus. I wonder if that is what it is called in India. When I did searches for hibiscus and gumamela I found one photo that looked like this one. When I searched “hibiscus hanging down” I found quite a few varieties including this one. Thanks for sharing your guess.

In Sanskrit it’s called “mandaaram.” As far as I know, most South Indians recognize the Sanskrit name. Not sure about Hindi name. And yes, it is hibiscus.
