I Earned the India Badge!

Imagine my surprise when I received an email on my Android yesterday saying “Congratulations on earning your India badge!”  At the time I was in the Seattle airport ready to board a plane to Toronto, where I would be attending the last programs on Amma‘s North American summer tour.

What India badge?  The message made no sense to me and I couldn’t imagine what the badge was.  When I took a look, I discovered it was acknowledgment from Fitbit, makers of a device I wear that, among other things, counts the steps I take.  What a fun synchronicity that the badge would be about India, one of the places I consider to be Home!

Thanks for the “Sisterhood of the World Bloggers” Award!

Yvonne at Seasoned Sistha2 recently chose me as one of her nominees for the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers award.  I definitely consider Yvonne a blogging sister of mine and am glad to know that she sees me in the same way.

It has been interesting and fun to think of my other blogging sisters and to decide which ones I will share this award with!

Award Rules

  • Provide the link to the person who nominated you.
  • Add the reward logo.
  • Answer the questions your nominator has asked.
  • Nominate five other bloggers and let them know via comments.
  • Ask your nominees five questions.

My Answers to Yvonne’s questions:

1)  Who would you want with you if you were stranded on a deserted island?

It makes the most sense to have a friend with me whom I enjoy being with, but one who also knows how to survive in the wilderness.  I would definitely want someone who knows what plants can be safely eaten. So Maheswari, I would like you to be on the deserted island with me!

2)  Would you rather travel by plane, train, or automobile?

I enjoy traveling by train the most, mainly because you can get up and move around as much as you want to. And I have had big adventures on trains! (e.g. The Day I Became a Train Hopper)

3)  If you could choose to do anything for a day, what would it be?

This may seem really strange, but in this moment what I would like to do for that day is visit one of the Seattle recycling plants! I’ve wanted to do that for several years, so I better get busy and make it a reality.  (If  I knew this was going to be my LAST day, though, I would have a different answer!)

4)  For what in your life do you feel most grateful?

I feel most grateful for my two incredible adult children and for having Amma as my spiritual teacher, guide, and mother.

5)  If you had to change your first name, what would you change it to?

I did change my first name! In 1991.  At that time, I asked Amma for a spiritual name and she named me Karuna, which means compassion. I treasure that name.

Thanks for the “Hearts as One Drum Beat” Award!

I was so surprised to wake up last Sunday and discover that Yvonne at Seasoned Sistha2 had nominated me for Sue Dreamwalker’s (Dreamwalker’s Sanctuary) “Hearts as One Drum Beat Award.”  I have been very inspired by Yvonne since I met her in Blogging 101 soon after I started my own blog. We have learned so much from each other during the past year. Thanks for your acknowledgment Yvonne, and thank you Sue for creating this award. Thanks for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award

I was very excited to be nominated for the Very Inspiring Bloggers Award by Nichole Davis.  Her blog Triumphant Wings: My Life with Lupus and Antiphopholipid Syndrome is a place where she shares her journey with two serious chronic illnesses.  I particularly appreciate her powerful poem Lost.  The poem Lost touched me to my core.  Nichole also shares her beautiful photographs on her blog.

Here are the guidelines for the award:

  1. Thank and link the amazing person who nominated you.
  2. List the rules and display the award.
  3. Share seven facts about yourself.
  4. Nominate 15 other amazing blogs and comment on their posts to let them know they have been nominated.
  5. Optional: Proudly display the award logo on your blog and follow the blogger who nominated you.

7 facts about me:

  1. I have either driven through or lived in every state except Alaska
  2. I’ve been to India 24 times
  3. I have a 36 year old daughter and a 39 year old son.  They both live in India.
  4. I was a terrible cook when I raised my kids.  They grew up on very simple meals with a lot of frozen dinners thrown in.  I practiced a lot of new recipes before they visited Seattle a few weeks ago. It was fun to surprise them.  Better late than never.
  5. My children will take their dad, my ex-husband, to the Tetons and Yellowstone in July.  It is a trip that is on his “Bucket List.”  He has asked me to come too.  I have some concerns about the altitude since I deal with high blood pressure, but I’ve decided my blood pressure is enough under control to join them for part of the trip.
  6. I was once called for jury duty soon after I started a new job.  I was chosen for a trial that lasted for 3 months.  I thoroughly enjoyed serving on the jury, but my new employer was very unhappy that I hadn’t attempted to get out of it.
  7. I took my children to see Prince when they were preteens/teens.  I loved his Purple Rain album then, and still do.  The song I like best on that album is “When Doves Cry.”
