The Hing Hay Park Dragon

This beautiful and incredible mural is located at Hing Hay Park (409 Maynard Ave. S) in the International District of Seattle.  It was painted by John Woo in 1977 using acrylic paint on concrete.  The painting depicts Asian American struggles with dragon.

Wikipedia has this to say about dragons in Chinese culture:

Chinese dragons traditionally symbolize potent and auspicious powers, particularly control over water, rainfall, hurricane, and floods. The dragon is also a symbol of power, strength, and good luck for people who are worthy of it.

  6. Beautiful. I love the colors and the movement in the dragon. The way it winds around time and history, connecting the stories, stringing them together and holding them .

  7. Oh I would love to have this painted on my house wall lol, seriously I would I adore Chinese dragons. There are always wonderful stories behind them too.     1. It was fun to do it. I have an idea for the tea one so will probably do that before long too. I haven’t seen the other entries yet but I noticed there are quite a few of them!

      I’m imagining your neighbors reaction to having that dragon on your house. It would probably take three houses to replicate it completely!
