      1. I learned more since I wrote you. I only saw one elk with antlers and they were very small. Apparently the males only stay with the herd for the first year of life. After that they go much higher on the mountain and live with the other males. They are the ones that have the big antlers. And I also found out that the antlers are shed at the end of each year and new ones grow. So they grow very fast.
