The Song Lyric Sunday prompt for this week is “Time.” As I searched for a song about time, my eyes fell on Roberta Flack’s, The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face. I LOVE Roberta Flack and hearing the song brought back so many memories from the 70’s.
The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face was written by Ewan MacColl in 1957. It was first sung by Peggy Seeger and then by a series of folk singers. Roberta Flack’s version became an international hit in 1972. (Wikipedia)

Grace indeed thank you, the emotion is palpable beautifully sweet in flavour….a song sung with a voice always in-Love. Pure melody and poetry expressed vocally by the Heart in prayer. Very moving, thank you.
I’ll return to listen to this song at Sun rise in the morning. It would be perfect. And perfect every dawn. Of course, if I am blessed with a cloudless sky tonight and a full moon then I shall listen to it then as well. Thank you Karuna.

I was married in 1972 and this song took me back to the soft heady love of those first days. Later after I had my first child I found another layer of interpretation for the lyrics.

I was married in 1971 and my kids were born in 1974 and 1977. Sounds like we are from the same generation.

Yup, 74, 76 and 79 for the kids. It was a wild and crazy time, wasn’t it? And I wouldn’t have wanted to miss a second of it.

I am in Canada. The first time I heard this one it was redone by Canadian Celine Dion. Beautiful. Love the lyrics.

I saw Celine’s when I was looking for a video of it on YouTube. Someone else mentioned that they listen to the Gordon Lightfoot Version. I imagine we all imprinted on the first person we heard sing it!
