I posted the other day about an unusual insect I saw in Saraswati Garden. At the time, I thought it was a butterfly or a moth but I couldn’t find a photo on the internet that was anything like it.
Today I went to the Tulasi Farm in Amritapuri and there was an area that had MANY of these insects. In watching them fly, I knew they weren’t either butterflies or moths. They moved so fast I couldn’t see them well, but I thought they might be dragon flies.
When I looked on the internet, I discovered there are 91 species of dragon flies in Kerala. I was able to find a photo of one that looked similar to what I had seen.
In the Medicine Cards book, the dragonfly represents “Illusion”. How perfect to be reminded of that while with Amma. 🙂

Dragonflies are among my favorite creatures….Visitors from Paradise. Loving your posts from Amritapuri. Yesterday was the Winter Solstice, and it was obvious at this latitude, with a very late rising sun and early setting sun. It’s nice to see another world of vegetation and sunlight, which can be hard to imagine in this dark cloudy world here. But there are lots of colored holiday lights all over Seattle, which helps! Merry Christmas!

I once learned a Native American chant that was said to create such stillness that a dragonfly would land on you. I tried it out at that time and it worked!!!

Hmmm…I think maybe somewhere in its past, this fellow’s ancestors fooled around with a Tiger Swallowtail butterfly. It was probably forbidden love…

Could be. Interesting thing about that theory is that it is the tiger swallowtail butterfly that is the most prevalent butterfly on our Greenbelt restoration site!

Hmmm, maybe a few trips back you accidentally smuggled some into India and now they are hooking up with these dragonflies! (Cute, winking emoji here…)

Funny idea, but I recently learned that butterflies have a 24 hour life span so they wouldn’t even make it to India!
