Why?

When I was walking in my neighborhood two weeks ago, I saw this tree stump and wondered why it had been decorated it this way.  After pondering it for some time, the story I made up was that the homeowners didn’t want the tree there and didn’t want to take out the stump.  I suspected these materials were placed in this way to keep people from tripping over it. From Darkness to Light

Navatatri started on Friday.  Navaratri is a nine day festival honoring Goddesses Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati.  Durga destroys our negative tendencies; Lakshmi brings prosperity; and Saraswati is the embodiment of knowledge.  On Friday, I went to a friend’s house for an event and she had a Navaratri altar set up.  The altar was so stunning that I gasped when I walked into the room.  I heard the same reaction from other people.
