I’m reading a fascinating biography of Karen Blixen (Isak Dinesen) who wrote Out of Africa…she lived by this sentiment.
Also, there’s an old Danish story which she said all kids were raised on in those days about a man who gets up in the middle of the night and rushes out into the dark to take care of some emergency. He runs around this way and that, falling into and getting out of ditches. In the morning when he sees his tracks in the snow they have drawn a beautiful outline of a stork. Karen used to say that all the problems in life she had to deal with might in the end reveal a beautiful picture. Indeed, they provided fuel for her stories which became worldwide hits.
