Weekly Photo Challenge: Scale
Responding to this week’s photo challenge was easy. This is a picture of the 10.4 pound squash that grew in my garden last summer. It was so much fun to watch it get bigger and bigger; and the meals it provided were delicious!
Weekly Photo Challenge: Depth
I set off on a walk to search for “Depth.” I took pictures of a winding road that could be “Depth,” but then felt drawn to look over the side of a hill. That view was “Depth” to me!
As I reviewed the photo, I became intrigued by two objects that were in the center. What were they? I went back to the hill to look closer.
What was a fire hydrant doing in the middle of the woods? And what was the yellow circular object?
As I write this post, I’m wondering if there are also one or more objects just to the right of the fire hydrant. “Depth” had led to a mystery. Maybe sometime I will crawl down that hill and take a closer look!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Express Yourself
These are the treasured photos that come to mind when I think of the phrase “Express Yourself.”

Challenge directions:
Today, we challenge you to show us what “express yourself” means to you. It could be the delightful, gummy grin of a baby grand-nephew, a message of love written with a biplane in the sky, the clenched fist of anger and frustration, or even a lunch with an attitude. This topic is wide-open and I can’t wait to see what you do with it. Have fun!

Living in Awareness
Last Saturday, I decided to do the morning prayers as a walking meditation instead of sitting like I normally do. Fairly quickly, I discovered I was “receiving” a series of “tests” or “lessons” in the midst of the prayers. I stayed in the moment and worked through them without missing a word of the chants! I enjoy these types of challenges and decided to share what I learned. Continue reading “Living in Awareness”
Weekly Photo Challenge: Warmth
Warmth for me is being in Amma’s arms, any place, any time, for as long as possible! I feel especially warm inside if I am being held when she is laughing.

Submitted for Weekly Photo Challenge: Warmth
Instructions: Whether you live on my side of the planet or in the Southern Hemisphere, enjoying real heat on the beach or in your yard, show us your take on warmth. You can go from the literal (saunas! scarves! steaming cups of tea!) to the figurative (the embrace of family members coming together for the holidays, the look of affection on your pet’s face, or even just a photo with a particularly warm color palette, no matter its subject matter).
Clarification: I am Graced to have this photo but it is not one I personally took. I happened to be in Amma’s arms when she was watching a play during her Boston programs many years ago.
Weekly Photo Challenge: Yellow
This has been a week of learning to let go of plans. It occurred to me that this photo challenge is another opportunity to respond to that lesson. I had “planned” to create a post similar to Red, Red and More Red and A Pop of Color for the Yellow challenge. I even took some pictures for it, but I’m now realizing that the “perfect” response to the challenge is one of the first photos I took!

Challenge Description: This holiday season, we’re throwing you a photo challenge color curveball. Many of us around the world are ensconced in the holiday season. You may be surrounded with blue and silver if you’re celebrating Hanukkah; black, red, and green, if you’re celebrating Kwanzaa; or festooned with reds and greens if Christmas is coming to your house. With this week’s challenge, show us what yellow means to you.
Weekly Photo Challenge: Twinkle
When I saw the photo challenge yesterday, I thought of this beautiful altar that friends of mine built earlier this year for Navaratri.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Gone But Not Forgotten
This past June, I was very disturbed by the lack of honey bees in my garden (We Need the Bees). While bumblebees were present throughout the summer, and at least some honey bees from mid July on, I don’t think I ever saw a bee of any kind in the bee balm, a plant known for attracting bees. While I grieve that the world’s bee population has decreased so significantly, and hope we can do what it takes to bring them back, my heart lifted when I saw this visitor in the bee balm one day. This bird, or others like it, returned almost every day. While the hummingbird is gone now, I have not forgotten it, and look forward to the possibility of its return next summer! At that time, I hope I am also blessed with the sight of seeing honey bees drinking nectar from the bee balm.
