Song Lyric Sunday: Give Me Love

Helen’s direction for this week’s Song Lyric Sunday is to share a song about love. Yesterday, I watched Across the Universe with my friend Kathie from Chosen Perspectives. All of the songs in that musical were Beatles songs. The song I have chosen, Give Me Love, was not part of that movie, but watching the movie sure put the Beatles on my mind!

Give Me Love was written by George Harrison sometime in 1971-1972. During that period of his life, he was helping refugees of the Bangladesh Liberation War. George said this about the song:

This song is a prayer and personal statement between me, the Lord, and whoever likes it

I believe this prayer is in the hearts of many of us today. I have felt comforted as I listened to it and hope you do too.

Amma: Let Us Pray

When I travel around the globe, people from war-stricken countries often come to see me. Women from these areas tell me, “We wake up in the morning to the sounds of gun-fire and screaming. Our children cling to us in fear and cry; we also hold onto them and cry. It’s been so many years since we awoke to the chirping of birds.”

Let us pray that the crackle of gunfire in such places is soon replaced by the sweet sounds of chirping birds, and that the young and old alike burst into laughter instead of tears.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

I recently went to see Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. That movie touched my heart SO much. There were so many scenes that I will remember for a very long time, and I usually don’t remember the content of movies even the day after I see them.

I decided to post about it because I assume it is a movie that a lot of people would never consider seeing. Most of the trailers showed the war part of the movie but not the heart. I just found a trailer that at least shows glimpses of the heart portions.

I wish they had chosen another picture to put on the front of the trailer. I sure would have.

Yes there is violence in this movie. But there is so much heart and many lessons about life and living as well. I was teary for many hours after I saw it, and not many of my tears were from sadness.

Tears of the Prophets

I read this poem for the first time today. It really spoke to me. In these days of war and unrest I think God cries for all of his/her children, regardless of nationality, religion, race or any of the other ways we subdivide ourselves and create a sense of otherness. Thank you for writing and posting the poem Paul.
