Love Yourself, Love Others

Hjärta

During the last two months, I have been invited by two blogging sisters (SeasonedSistha2 and Tournesol Dans Un Jardin) to write ten four-word sentences about love.  The form of the challenges were different, so I decided to do it my own way!  Here are the sentences that came to my mind:

Love has many forms

Love through a smile
Love through a word
Love through a touch
Love through a look

 Love heals painful wounds
Love leads to happiness
Love helps build communities
Love can transform evil

 Love yourself, Love others

What four-word sentences about love would you like to add?

Amma, Embodiment of Compassion

Amma, Embodiment of Compassion

For the tiny infant to the eldest elder, she is there.
For the faint of heart and the bravest of the brave, she is there.
For the rich and the poor, for the saint and the sinner, she is there.
For those who are happy and those in despair, she is there.

When I’m sad and lonely, when I’m in danger, she is there.
When my children, friends and family need help, she is there.
When I need momentum to learn and grow, she is there.
When I want a hug because I’m feeling low, she is there.

Amma, embodiment of compassion and love renowned.
I thank you with an appreciation that has no bounds.

Written for Writing 201: Hero(ine)  The assignment was to create a ballad using anaphora or epistrophe.  “Anaphora simply means the repetition of the same word (or cluster of words) at the beginning of multiple lines of verse in the same poem. Epistrophe is its counterpart: the repeated words appear at the end of lines.”

Weekly Photo Challenge: Express Yourself

These are the treasured photos that come to mind when I think of the phrase “Express Yourself.”

This post was written for the Weekly Photo Challenge: Express Yourself

Challenge directions:

Today, we challenge you to show us what “express yourself” means to you. It could be the delightful, gummy grin of a baby grand-nephew, a message of love written with a biplane in the sky, the clenched fist of anger and frustration, or even a lunch with an attitude. This topic is wide-open and I can’t wait to see what you do with it. Have fun!

I was so surprised to wake up last Sunday and discover that Yvonne at Seasoned Sistha2 had nominated me for Sue Dreamwalker’s (Dreamwalker’s Sanctuary) “Hearts as One Drum Beat Award.”  I have been very inspired by Yvonne since I met her in Blogging 101 soon after I started my own blog. We have learned so much from each other during the past year. Thanks for your acknowledgment Yvonne, and thank you Sue for creating this award. Happy Birthday to Mahatma Gandhi

Mohandas_K._Gandhi,_portrait

“When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall. Think of it–always.”

Feeding a Fledging

I saw this video at Amma’s Toronto programs last month.  It touched my heart so much then.  When I received a copy of it a few minutes ago, I knew I wanted to share it with all of you.

The video came with this introduction:

Recently, a baby bird that had fallen out of its nest was brought to Amma during darshan. After feeding the bird, Amma said that its pathetic condition and heartfelt cries reminded her of all the suffering being experienced throughout the world and how the only way to rid the world of such suffering is through the awakening of compassion: “Children, the tears of those suffering from extreme poverty and other misfortunes, as well as of those who have more than enough materially but are still crying out deep within, can only be dried by pure love and compassion. May that compassion awaken in everyone, everywhere.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

I recently went to see Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.  That movie touched my heart SO much.  There were so many scenes that I will remember for a very long time, and I usually don’t remember the content of movies even the day after I see them.

I decided to post about it because I assume it is a movie that a lot of people would never consider seeing.  Most of the trailers showed the war part of the movie but not the heart.  I just found a trailer that at least shows glimpses of the heart portions.

I wish they had chosen another picture to put on the front of the trailer.  I sure would have.

Yes there is violence in this movie.  But there is so much heart and many lessons about life and living as well.  I was teary for many hours after I saw it, and not many of my tears were from sadness.

Judgment or Compassion?

There are a lot of homeless people living in  Seattle, especially in the Green Belt, a forested area, part of which is located near my home. There are times when I strike up a conversation with them or at least smile as we pass by each other on the sidewalk.

I really notice the difference between my behavior in those situations and when I am approached by a panhandler in a parking lot or near the entrance to a grocery store. Continue reading “Judgment or Compassion?”

To Be Seen, To Be Known, To Be Close, To Belong

The Dungeon Prompt for this week is to answer the question “What does love look like?”  It didn’t take me long to decide what to write about!

Throughout my teenage years, I was very involved in church activities.  That changed by the time I graduated from college.  The college I attended was religiously conservative.  The U.S. at that time was in the throes of the civil rights and Vietnam war crises.  Continue reading “To Be Seen, To Be Known, To Be Close, To Belong”
