Rain, Rain and More Rain
It is 6:00 a.m. on December 31 as I start to write this post and it is pouring. When it rains here it can really rain. The fact that there are a lot of metal roofs in the ashram probably enhances the sound, but it would be loud even without them. It is still very dark outside but I can see the puddles forming.
Every time I think it can’t rain harder, it does. I love the sound, and the coolness it brings with it. I think this is what it must be like to be here during the monsoons, although then the rain probably lasts much longer. I’ve been in Amritapuri during the latter part of the monsoons and know how hard it can be to get laundry dry because of the rain. Continue reading “Rain, Rain and More Rain”
Weekly Photo Challenge: Warmth
Warmth for me is being in Amma’s arms, any place, any time, for as long as possible! I feel especially warm inside if I am being held when she is laughing.

Clarification: I am Graced to have this photo but it is not one I personally took. I happened to be in Amma’s arms when she was watching a play during her Boston programs many years ago.
Weekly Photo Challenge: Yellow
This has been a week of learning to let go of plans. It occurred to me that this photo challenge is another opportunity to respond to that lesson. I had “planned” to create a post similar to Red, Red and More Red and A Pop of Color for the Yellow challenge. I even took some pictures for it, but I’m now realizing that the “perfect” response to the challenge is one of the first photos I took!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Gone But Not Forgotten
This past June, I was very disturbed by the lack of honey bees in my garden (We Need the Bees). While bumblebees were present throughout the summer, and at least some honey bees from mid July on, I don’t think I ever saw a bee of any kind in the bee balm, a plant known for attracting bees. While I grieve that the world’s bee population has decreased so significantly, and hope we can do what it takes to bring them back, my heart lifted when I saw this visitor in the bee balm one day. This bird, or others like it, returned almost every day. While the hummingbird is gone now, I have not forgotten it, and look forward to the possibility of its return next summer! At that time, I hope I am also blessed with the sight of seeing honey bees drinking nectar from the bee balm.

Guessing Game
A blogging friend of mine, Justine from eclecticoddsnsods just started a weekly challenge and I love her first entry. The directions are:
The challenge is to photograph something that depicts the subject matter of ‘wrinkles’. The aim of the photograph is that firstly the person guessing does have a chance of getting it right but not too easily. Try to see if you can take a photograph that will need the least editing possible. The idea being to use angles, light, shadow & to perhaps find something even mundane that one can make look extraordinary or complex. The end result being that when the guessing is finally over those trying to work it out will slap their thigh and say “I can’t believe it was something so simple, I just couldn’t see it, but now it’s obvious.”
